I love a troubled marriage plot so I went on to read Ninja at First Sight and Happily Ever Ninja. The Heaving Bosoms episode on the book is great and encapsulates a lot of my own feelings about the book. I loved Sandra as a heroine - though her responses to some of the alarming things that Alex did were quite out of character, in my opinion. However, I kept seeing her books recommended here - so I went on to read. And it was quite incredible that the purportedly super-smart heroine did not realise that she was dating her boss. Spouting random trivia is not a personality trait. Neanderthal Seeks Human - It was not my favourite. ![]() And I wanted to get this sub's opinions on these because they are kind of driving me up the wall.įirst up, I will say that I have not read all her books. I think there are a few issues with her books which irk me, which make it difficult for me to love them unconditionally. ![]() She has great setups, well fleshed-out characters, interesting settings, believable conflict, and a really well-defined riveting style. Penny Reid is, in my opinion, a fantastic writer. ![]() ![]() ![]() There is also a Spin-Off called How to Train Your Viking, which takes place between the second and third books told in Toothless's point of view. ![]() It was later republished as How to Be a Viking.īook twelve ended the series, and it was released on 8 September 2015. I, I think I'd like to begin just even with the first word, Valarie, "See," because I think in your book, you really tell us that this is a first step. And this is the paperback version it's titled, See No Stranger: a memoir and manifesto of revolutionary love. I have another copy, a hard copy, over my shoulder, so everyone should see it. I cannot wait to see you all in person in Dallas. Valarie: Oh, I'm so honored to be here with you, George. So,, Let this be,, an initial welcome, and then we'll see you in person. And it's, wonderful to welcome you to Good God, Valarie and soon we will welcome you, to Dallas, because Faith Commons, our organization, is bringing you here. Valarie is an activist and a lawyer, a civil rights advocate and a well to me, kind of cultural phenomenon right now. I'm your host, George Mason and I am so pleased to welcome to this conversation, Valarie Kaur. George: Welcome to Good God, conversations that matter about faith and public life. ![]() ![]() ![]() And I admit that occasionally I found Levy’s use of repetition to be clever these recurring word-plays, dialogues, and images did give a rhythm to the narrative and could occasionally serve as comedic relief. To me, it seemed that the way the story was being told was all that mattered. There is little to no depth or feeling in the story and characters of this relatively short book, but rather an intentionally oblique narrative that time and again chooses style over substance. While I’m glad to see that many of my friends and other readers were able to enjoy this latest release by Deborah Levy, I found it to be yet another example of all flash no substance. I think that from now on I might stick to Deborah Levy‘s non-fiction. For readers in want of an incisive and creative account of life in East Germany, I strongly recommend picking up something by Christa Wolf. ![]() |
